what we do
Bread and Butter is a content agency celebrating makers and growers.
We work with community leaders to shine a light on their local producers, telling their stories in video, pictures and words.
Explorers at heart, we jump at the chance to dive down rabbit holes in search of magic moments.
Our founder Wendy Hargreaves has spent decades reporting on people, places and events in Australia and abroad. Now the born-and-bred country girl is seeking stories that cultivate common ground between the bush and the city.
Wendy believes everyone’s got a yarn to tell, and she’s ready to listen.
“Wendy’s non-biased and upbeat approach to both her life and work is a breath of fresh air in a highly competitive industry where everyone has an agenda. I have found her extremely trustworthy and I can’t wait for the opportunity to work with her again soon.”

Wendy joins Australia’s Mr Meat, Adrian Richardson, for a cheeky masterclass on glazing Christmas ham. This video was filmed at Adrian’s acclaimed restaurant La Luna in Carlton North.
High stress, long hours and brutal pressure are all in a day’s work for chefs. So how do they deal with it? In this award-winning short film by Wendy Hargreaves, Danish chef Bente Grysbæk reveals how fire saved her life after a massive anxiety attack. These beautiful images in the bush north of Melbourne are by chef-turned-photographer Dean Cambray. Burnt has won two short film awards at the Hollywood Dreamz International Film Festival and the Action on Film International Film Festival in Las Vegas. It was also nominated for best short documentary at Hollywood Dreamz.
The search for great human stories is Wendy’s bread and butter.
The Melbourne food journalist and broadcaster has three decades’ experience in print, on air and online.
Her stories have appeared in Australia’s biggest newspapers and magazines, and she’s a regular voice on Melbourne’s top-rating radio station, 3AW. Wendy also created online magazine Five of the Best, along with two award-winning short films about extraordinary women in the hospitality industry, Burnt and Obsession.
Wendy launched Bread & Butter Media in the darkness of Melbourne’s 2020-21 lockdowns with one big audacious goal: to reconnect people and communities by finding common ground.
Wendy also loves to chat, so sing out.
